GOD'S UNFAILING LOVE

By: Dennis Harworth

One summer night years ago, I curled up on the floor of an abandoned house to try to sleep, but to no avail.  My mind was whirring with all of the “could of, would of, should ofs”.  My life was overwhelmed with struggles, trials and challenges.  My circumstances and bad decisions had led me down a path of depression, despair and depravity.  But, instead of turning to the Lord for help, I had been running from Him not to Him.  Yet even in my furthest moments, I could not shake the feeling that He was lovingly and patiently drawing me back.  That night I felt it again, only this time I also sensed God’s presence.  I was too despondent and exhausted to even move.  In a feeble cry of surrender, I weakly whispered, “Lord, I need your help.”

At that moment, I felt the sweetest, warm embrace of love permeate my whole being.  I pictured the Lord kneeling down beside me, compassionately hugging me and showering me with His unfailing love that melted away my depression and all my anxieties.  He had been faithfully waiting for me to give Him the slightest opening in my life in which to pour His love.  Then by doing so, my life changed forever.

The best word I could use this to describe this amazing love that flooded my life is lovingkindness.  It is translated from one of the most important words in Old Testament – the Hebrew word “checed”.  How true and fitting this word describes God’s unfailing love as faithful, kind, and merciful by taking compassion on those who don’t deserve it.

This immediately reminded me of the father that waited daily and watched eagerly for his prodigal son to return home.  While the son was still a long distance away, his father saw him.  Filled with love and compassion, he ran to him and embraced him with a fervent love. (Luke 15:20).

This is so like our Heavenly Father; a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. (Psalm 86:15 NLT).  God’s love is endless and enduring and always inviting.  Like He did with me, God is waiting for you with opportunities to respond willingly, but never forcing you to come to Him. God really loves you and He loves you no matter what!  There’s absolutely nothing you could do to make God love you more and there’s absolutely nothing you’ve done to make God love you less.  The Lord is saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.  With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.” (Jeremiah 31:3 NLT).

God’s unfailing love is as vast as the heavens and His faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. (Psalm 36:5 NLT).  No matter how needy you are or how many times you fail or fall short, His powerful love to you is inexhaustible and unwavering.  Since God is love (1 John 4:8), you can completely trust Him, because His love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8). So, be willing to open up and let the Lord pour into your life:

GOD’S UNFAILING LOVE.
