Over 100 million Americans make New Year’s resolutions each year. We (myself included) want to change or improve something in our lives, especially our relationship with Jesus Christ. We promise ourselves to do better this year than last – at least making it past the second week before we stopped. Do we pray?
Dear Lord,
So far this year, I’ve done well. I haven’t gossiped; I haven’t lost my temper; I haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish, or overindulgent. I’ve committed no crimes.
I haven’t cheated on my spouse. I haven’t lied or conned anyone. I’m thankful for that, but in a few minutes, Lord, I’m going to get out of bed. It’s a little after 6am on January 1 and from here on out, I’m really going to need a lot of help. A lot of help!! Thank you, Lord.
It’s no secret that very few of us stick to our resolutions beyond the first month. But the real mystery is why we try to carry out our resolutions without the Lord’s help. God promises His own divine power to give us everything we need for living a godly life. He has also given to each and every one of us exceeding great and precious promises in His Word to develop that life and godliness. We need to realize godliness is profitable for all things, having the promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come (1Timothy 4:8). We need to understand that through God’s promises we can share in the very nature of God, along with escaping the moral and spiritual decay around us (2 Peter 1:3-4).
God considers each and every one of His promises to be precious, priceless, and of the greatest importance. It so pleases our Heavenly Father when we act on His Word and receive His promises. It is like a father watching with great delight as his child joyfully receives the most meaningful gift they ever wanted (John 16:24).
Each precious promise of God will never be broken. He will keep His word because He has magnified His word above His name (Psalm 138: 2).
Each precious promise from the faithful God is pure and proves to be true and absolutely accurate. He is a wraparound shield of protection for those who put their trust in Him (Proverbs 30:5, TPT).
Each precious promise of God will improve and bring increase into our lives as we become more and more like Him (2 Corinthians 3:18). He has called us to receive His own glory and goodness (2 Peter 1:3, NLT).
Each precious promise of God is positively for us and He makes it happen so that God can be glorified through us (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Each precious promise of God is for each of us who believe so that we can know and understand the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power (Ephesians 1:19, AMPC).
EACH precious promise brings:
Encouragement - We can be encouraged because God is alert and active, always
watching over His Word to make it happen. (Jeremiah 1:12).
Assurance - We can have the comfort and security of a fearless trust because He who
promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23), and that He cannot lie (Titus 1:2).
Confidence - Once we realize that every word promised by God will come to pass.
(Joshua 21:45), we will have full confidence in the reliability of God’s promises.
Help - All the help we will ever need is provided to us by God’s divine power. It is
through this same mighty power that He has given us all of His rich and
wonderful promises (2 Peter 1:3-4).
Each precious promise of God has within itself the power to make it come to pass. Numbers 23:19b says of God: “Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”
The power of His Word will always fulfill the promise of His Word.
There are thousands upon thousands of promises in the Bible, backed up by the trusted, reliable word of a faithful God and His ability to bring them to pass. Each of the precious promises of God are available for your life and all of them are yours for the asking. What are you waiting for? God means what He says, so literally take Him at His word and then enjoy His PRECIOUS PROMISES!
